What Girls Make Games Means to Me — by Crystal
Hello, I’m Crystal from the Sarcastic Shark Clouds team from the Girls Make Games summer camp. Im 12 years old and I’ve always wanted to work for the gaming industry since I knew it was a thing.
This summer camp was really exciting to go to, I met the other members of the team: Isadora, Gracie, and Kiera!
When we were creating the game I found out I really like level designing. In level design, I got to create what the player goes through and choose the difficulty. It was all so cool to me! I’m thinking about being a coder to, it would be cool to build up a level with the code i made myself after all!
I remember during each morning of the camp I would watch Isadora play a game called “Off” it was kinda like a horror game but also was fun to watch someone play it. I would look forward to coming to watch Isadora play it.
I knew about video games almost my whole life. A memory I will always remember was when my dad introduced me to Minecraft.
Together we made a made a chicken farm, which was a room full of chickens.
One day, my Dad wanted to make a second level and the chickens got in the way so he killed ALL MY CHICKENS even the last chicken who jumped on the stairs trying to get to the second level.
Don’t worry, no real chickens were harmed in the great chicken massacre of 2011. I loved Minecraft ever since and my mom even made me a Creeper costume for Halloween that year!
Even earlier then that, I loved video games. I would always get super excited anytime I got a new game to play. From racing games, to building games, to horror games and role playing games…I love them all!
Every Friday at the camp we would have ice cream which was delicious. This is why we choose for ice cream to be the healing item in our game, Shredded Secrets. After a week of hard work, the ice cream always gave us a sugar rush. Also for the snacks every day it would be fruit and/or veggie chips/straws, so don’t worry, we got nutritious stuff too!
When my team found out that we were a finalist in Demo Day, I was soooo excited. Not only would I get the chance to finish our video game, I got to show it to people from Nintendo, Xbox, Playstation and Caffeine!
Maybe if I am lucky, one of them will hire me once I finish college!
Or if they hire me now, I will work for sushi.
At Demo Day, we all planned to dab when we won “Best Narrative”.
The camp was awesome and I really hope you get to enjoy our game! This is my dream come true. Thank you!
